HPV Awareness Mobile App
Overview
Worked in a team of three to develop a mobile application that motivates and educates users on the importance of HPV vaccination for preventing HPV-related cancers. The app blends engaging gameplay, interactive lessons, and real-world resources to encourage health awareness and proactive behavior.
Key Contributions
- Developed the app using React Native (Expo) and designed custom animated components using Aseprite spritesheets.
- Implemented an intuitive Google Places API map feature to help users locate nearby HPV clinics based on their current location.
- Set up the app’s backend with Google Firebase for user authentication, data storage, and cloud response handling.
- Created a point system that rewards users for completing mini-games, quizzes, and educational videos.
- Integrated lesson modules and mini-games that simulate immune defense against HPV infection.
- Collaborated with teammates using GitHub for version control and peer code review, ensuring smooth integration across modules.
Impact
The prototype was presented to faculty and student groups as part of a public-health outreach initiative. The app demonstrates how gamification and accessible mobile tools can improve health education and vaccination engagement among young audiences. This app is currently still being worked on.
